Subject: 37-O 2010 Public Relations Campaign
update
Date: Sunday, March 07, 2010 11:33 AM
Message to Clubs,
We currently have ads about Lions running on Page 6 in the Calgary Sun every
Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The ads rotate between Youth Exchange, Project
Pride, the Peace Poster
contest and the Lions Youth Camp. The Sun has been very helpful: our rep. got
the ads in colour for the B & W price and was very supportive through the
process of getting set up.
Please have a look and by all means let me know what you think.
We recently sent a letter to all clubs asking for contributions to the PR
Campaign. To date eleven clubs have made a contribution and 2 more have made the
commitment to help. We
have received just over $5,000 towards the goal of $7,500 which is what we have
budgeted for the three programs we have on the go. Please bring the letter
forward at your next
club meeting for discussion and consideration of the request to contribute.
Public Relations is important. The district committee's goal this year is to
increase the district's level of commitment to PR. If you wish to increase your
community's awareness
of your club and wish to find out more please let me know. There are numerous
ways to get involved at the club level. Calgary Lions clubs set up at two
Calgary malls in January
for Lions in Sight. This can be done in any community to great effect. In fact,
the smaller the community the better. Strathmore Lions set up an organ and
tissue booth at the
local Sobey's February 27th and 28th and many good contacts were made. We made
some mistakes too but good PR takes practice.
Let's make more mistakes!!

THE INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF
LIONS CLUBS
(Lions Clubs International®)
District 37-O
Dear Lions, January 3rd, 2010
Re.: LIONS IN SIGHT
When you believe in a course strongly, you want to share that belief with the rest of the world. We Lions had been dedicated to serve those less fortunately than ourselves for the last hundred years and we had been doing it all too quietly.
This year to celebrate that dedication, International President Eberhard Wirfs established LIONS IN SIGHT initiative to remind all of us to go an extra mile to let the rest of the world know about us. He asked all of us to organize one significant Public Relationship activity during the last 2 weeks of January, 2010. And that is exactly when will happen in our District.
The LIONS IN SIGHT Committee in our District has arranged to have information booths set up in three major shopping malls in Calgary: South Centre, Sunridge and Deerfoot January 22nd to January 31st. A brochure has also been printed, designed not only to inform the general public about the 80 years of service of Lions in Alberta but also to raise their interest to learn more about our passion and our mission, enough to want to be part of us.
Now we need you to get involved.
We need Lions to be at the information booths, to talk to people about us. A schedule has been drawn up. The shifts are four hours shifts with two people at each shift. Please check your schedule and offer your time and enthusiasm.
You can contact Immediate Past District Governor Lion Christina Pond with the shifts you are available to fill. She can be reached by
Phone: 403-280-6826 (H) 403-233-5946 (B)
Email: Christina.pond@shaw.ca
You can also contact Past District Governor Lion John Watson for more information on LIONS IN SIGHT projects.
Please make this project your priority, for together, there is no limit in what we can do.
Yours in Lionism,
Lion Fred Walters
District Governor

State reasons why you think this member is a worthy candidate for the MD37 Hall of Fame:
Lion Roy was born on a farm just south of Ryley, Alberta on March 5, 1915. He worked for the Alberta Wheat Pool before joining the Air Force. As a transport pilot flying injured soldiers back to England he decided to dedicate his life to helping others and he has spent 94 years doing just that. He was sponsored into Lions by Lion Jack Merenick. His time with Lions began with looking after the Lion Youth Marching Band for 7 years. During his 40+ years with the club he has served on all committees and held all offices with the exception of secretary. On the district level he was treasurer for the car bingos as well being involved in environmental, senior citizens and public relations issues. He remains an active member of the club. He is cheerful and helpful to all around him and a dedicated Lion. Roy is the epitome of what Lions stand for and has spent a lifetime fulfilling the Lions motto – We Serve.
